For over one hundred years, our St Nicholas Community has celebrated the Feast of Epiphany in much the same manner as faithful Orthodox Christians throughout the world have done for centuries. Over the past eleven decades, our celebration has become known throughout the world, drawing visitors and spectators from all corners of the globe, and this year was no different.
Well, it was a bit different. Not only did we welcome His Eminence Archbishop ELPIDOPHOROS of America on the occasion of his first to Tarpon Springs, we were blessed to welcome, for the first time in history, a sitting Prime Minister of Greece, Mr Kyriakos Mitsotakis along with his wife, and members of his cabinet. Advance news of his arrival spread quickly in town, even before it was official, and even more spectators were present at Spring Bayou last Monday than were expected.
Despite all the extra security protocol, constant and last minute schedule changes of the Prime Minister, and the countless new visitors who required our attention, our annual Epiphany Celebration was a smooth and blessed event for all who attended. That could only have been made possible through the dedicated efforts of hundreds of faithful men and women in our St Nicholas Community, the City of Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County Sheriff, Parish Council, and Epiphany Committee Members. Thank you!
Without your continued dedicated work and faithfulness to Christ and His Church, celebrations such as Epiphany in Tarpon Springs would be nothing more than another day of Liturgy and maybe a nice lunch. Because of your continued efforts, we once again became the conduit of the Holy Spirit to descend upon the water of Spring Bayou and bless thousands of people who were looking on.
Epiphany has never been just another day, but here in Tarpon Springs, the Epiphany City, it is a day of hard work and blessings. Thank you for being a part of what makes our blessed tradition a blessing for others.
