COVID19 Update - March 31, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,

With the blessings of the Metropolis of Atlanta, and in compliance with Pinellas County regulations, we are pleased to announce some important updates and much anticipated changes to the COVID19 Protocols for our St Nicholas Cathedral effective immediately.

  • Face masks ARE MANDATORY for people inside the Cathedral at all services. They may be removed temporarily in order to receive Holy Communion.

  • Capacity inside the Cathedral will be returned to 100%, with no standing in the aisles. For those who are not comfortable with being in a crowded Cathedral, Fr Tryfon Hall will be set up with strict social distancing and the big screen. During Holy Communion, a chalice will be brought to Fr Tryfon Hall so you may receive Holy Communion. If you prefer to attend Divine Liturgy inside the Cathedral, but are not comfortable with crowds, each Saturday we will continue to maintain 50% capacity to allow for more social distancing.

  • If you wish to attend Divine Liturgy without a mask, you may remain outside in the plaza during Divine Liturgy on any day. During Holy Communion, a chalice will be brought outside for you to receive Holy Communion. Please maintain social distancing in the plaza area if you are without a mask.

We will continue to evaluate the situation, but unless otherwise informed by myself or the Parish Council, these protocols will be in use during Holy Week and Pascha. While we expect large crowds to return to Church, please be respectful and follow the instructions of the Parish Council and Ushers. We simply cannot accommodate everyone inside the Cathedral in a safe manner. Once we have reached capacity, you will be asked to remain outside.

I remain thankful to God for our health and safety, and look forward to the day soon when we can return to normal. Until then, please be respectful of each other’s needs and opinions on this very challenging issue. I pray Great Lent continues to be a blessing for you, your family and our entire community.

In Christ,

+Fr Athanasios
